New photos of the ultra-luxury hotel development in Cape Town with its own superyacht marina
The new luxury hospitality development, Cape Town EDITION hotel and private residences, is set to open at the V&A Waterfront in late 2026.
The development will be the first EDITION hotel in Africa and forms part of the V&A Waterfront’s broader Quay 7 development, which includes a new superyacht marina.
The hotel is being developed by Marriott International, which signed an agreement to bring the EDITION brand to Cape Town in December 2018. The hotel is expected to open in October 2026.
EDITION is one of Marriott’s luxury brands and operates hotels in cities such as London, New York, Miami, and Tokyo.
The brand combines hotel accommodation with design-led dining, social spaces, and experiences linked to each location.
Set along the V&A Waterfront, the Cape Town property will overlook Table Mountain, the ocean, and the new superyacht marina.
The Cape Town EDITION will offer 142 rooms and 27 suites, together with a spa, rooftop pool, dining outlets, and event spaces.
Led by Shanghai-based architecture firm Neri & Hu, working with Cape Town-based StudioMAS, the hotel’s design will combine contemporary architecture with local materials and craftsmanship.
A sculptural Drum will mark the entrance, while hand-laid brickwork, artisanal masonry, and textured materials will feature throughout the hotel’s social spaces.
The hotel is also expected to offer experiences that are specifically designed around Cape Town and its surroundings.
The development forms part of the V&A Waterfront’s continued expansion as a mixed-use destination, which brings together hotels, restaurants, retail, offices, residential properties, and marine facilities.
It will also include six private residences, giving buyers the opportunity to own property within the development. The residences will form part of the EDITION offering and will have access to the wider V&A Waterfront.
New superyacht marina

As part of the V&A Waterfront’s ongoing investment in its marine precinct, it is also developing a Quay 7 Superyacht Marina, which will sit next to the EDITION hotel.
The marina is currently under construction and is scheduled for completion by 31 October 2026, with an official opening planned for 1 November.
The facility, which will have eight berths and accommodate superyachts of up to 90 metres during the peak season, is being built by Damen Shipyards Cape Town, with six floating pontoons, each measuring 30 metres in length.
As of July 2026, around 120 people were working on the project, with 76% of procurement spend directed to local suppliers.
V&A Waterfront CEO Graham Wood explained that the marina would help position Cape Town on the global superyacht circuit.
“The keel laying ceremony marks the moment where years of planning this strategic maritime infrastructure become a visible reality,” Wood said.
The marina is also meant to help support Cape Town’s marine manufacturing sector outside of the superyacht season.
During quieter periods, it will be used for commissioning and export staging for local catamaran manufacturers, including Robertson and Caine, Two Oceans Marine, and Balance Catamarans.
The V&A Waterfront said superyacht visits have increased steadily since 2009. During the 2024/25 season, 35 vessels visited the Waterfront.
The marina is expected to generate demand for services such as fuel, provisioning, marine engineering, logistics, hospitality, and other marine-related businesses.
The development will also include a new public promenade along the water’s edge, connecting the hotel and marina to the wider Waterfront.
