New ultra-luxury hotel in Cape Town where billionaires can park their superyachts outside their room
The Cape Town Edition hotel and private residences within the V&A Waterfront will offer an ultra-luxury experience for the rich and famous.
In December 2018, Marriott International signed an agreement to open The Cape Town Edition within the V&A Waterfront in 2026.
This is the first Marriott Edition hotel in Africa, bringing its signature design, innovation, and excellent service to Cape Town.
Marriott International already has a strong presence in South Africa through its Protea Hotels by Marriott brand and several upscale and luxury properties.
Its Autograph Collection includes African Pride Irene Country Lodge, African Pride Mount Grace, and Hotel 15 on Orange.
Its Premium and Luxury Brands feature The Westin Cape Town, Johannesburg Marriott Hotel Melrose Arch, and AC Hotel Cape Town Waterfront.
It also owns the Marriott Executive Apartments Johannesburg in Melrose Arch, designed for longer stays with full apartment amenities.
Marriott’s Edition Hotels is a luxury lifestyle brand within the Marriott International portfolio, designed to feel like a high-end boutique hotel.
Each hotel has a unique design that reflects its location, often featuring minimalist, modern aesthetics combined with historic architecture.
It is considered one of Marriott’s luxury tier brands, alongside The Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, and W Hotels.
Marriott Edition hotels are strategically placed in gateway cities around the world, including London, New York, Miami, Hollywood, and Tokyo.
Cape Town will join this exclusive club in October 2026 with the launch of The Cape Town Edition hotel.
R230 million investment in a purpose-built superyacht marina

The Cape Town Edition and The Residences form part of a greater V&A Waterfront Quay 7 Superyacht Marina development.
Last month, the V&A Waterfront announced a R230 million investment in a purpose-built superyacht marina.
It said that the new Quay 7 Superyacht Marina will create new economic opportunities for Cape Town’s marine services sector.
The marina, located in front of the new Cape Town Edition hotel, offers views of the Atlantic Ocean, the City Bowl, and Table Mountain.
Scheduled for completion in October 2026, it positions Cape Town as a key player in the global ocean economy.
V&A Waterfront CEO Graham Wood explained that the Quay 7 Superyacht Marina will address a market reality that has been building for years.
“Superyacht visits have grown steadily since 2009, and we welcomed 35 vessels in the 2024/25 season alone,” he said.
During peak season, the six stern-to and two beam-on berths and their floating jetties will accommodate superyachts of 40 metres to 90 metres.
In the off-season, the facility will support commissioning and export staging for Cape Town’s catamaran manufacturing industry.
This sector includes globally competitive builders such as Robertson and Caine, Two Oceans Marine, and Balance Catamarans.
The Cape Town Edition hotel

The Cape Town Edition will offer 142 guest rooms and suites and world-class facilities, including a rooftop bar, a spa, a pool, and meeting and event facilities.
The project will include six private residences that embody Marriott Edition’s signature blend of contemporary luxury and refined simplicity.
Shanghai-based architectural firm Neri & Hu has designed The Cape Town Edition and The Residences, in collaboration with local architect and design firm StudioMAS.
The project promises to deliver a sophisticated and welcoming atmosphere, seamlessly blending modern, luxurious style with authentic local character.
Through the V&A Waterfront, residents can access a world-class heliport and extensive yacht berths with dedicated superyacht facilities.
Guests and residents will also enjoy a newly developed public promenade along the water’s edge, providing seamless access to the vibrant destination.
“We are excited to be developing this architecturally stunning new building, which will mark the launch of Edition Hotels in Africa,” said the V&A Waterfront.
