This article refers only to a R5bn Fund that they manage – being the SA Equity Fund. Take a look at the performance of their R60bn Allan Gray Equity Fund – they’ve returned 18.9% per annum since inception versus a benchmark return of 14.1%. Then there’s their flagship R250bn Allan Gray Balanced Fund – which has returned 14.9% per annum since inception versus a benchmark return of 11.4% per annum. Each of those funds also has positive return performance versus their respective benchmarks over 1, 2, 3, 5, and 10 years. This isn’t really balanced reporting – you can pick 1 single fund out of any managers’ range and find an underperformer.
