New shopping centre with a rugged design opens its doors in South Africa’s most popular city
Saxdowne Shopping Centre in Kuils River, Cape Town, opened its doors, offering clients numerous stores, including Shoprite and Clicks.
The 6,000-square-metre shopping centre is located at the corner of Stellenbosch Arterial and Saxdowne Road in Cape Town.
The Saxdowne Shopping Centre offers a convenient new retail offering with easy access, ample parking, and a welcoming atmosphere.
“Saxdowne Shopping Centre is designed to make shopping simple, affordable, and convenient for the surrounding community,” the centre management said.
It is anchored by Shoprite and Clicks, along with other big brands such as Pep, Capitec, Shoprite Liquor Shop, and 24 Hour Laundry.
There are also many well-known restaurants and takeaways, including KFC, Hungry Lion, Debonairs Pizza, and Fish Co.
The centre was developed by Abland Property Developers, and the architects were Boogertman + Partners.
Struxit Projects was responsible for the structural civil engineering, and Ingplan Consulting Engineers handled the mechanical and fire engineering.
Watson and Mattheus were the electrical engineers, and Matla Quantity Surveyors and Watson Consulting supported the project.
Boogertman + Partners Architects said they were delighted to celebrate the opening of Saxdowne Shopping Centre in Kuils River.
“The centre serves as both a convenience centre for the local community and commuters travelling this busy route,” it said.
“Our design approach, particularly the finishes, drew inspiration from the raw beauty of the surrounding industrial landscape.”
They explained that the exposed facebrick, corrugated steel, and timber were a celebration of the raw materials.
“This transformed an industrial aesthetic into a warm, inviting space, softened by landscaping that feels like an oasis in its rugged surroundings,” it said.
“The centre has been designed for easy access, seamless flow, and everyday convenience, while retaining the industrial charm.”
The firm added that this design gave it a distinct local identity and authentic atmosphere, backed by a curated retail experience.
