R2 billion development breaks ground in South Africa’s richest square mile

Growthpoint has officially broken ground on a R2 billion residential and retail development, Olympus Sandton, in partnership with leading luxury developer Tricolt.

On 26 February 2026, the group officially broke ground on the development, which is situated in the mixed-use Sandton Summit precinct, anchored by the Discovery Head Office on the corner of Rivonia Road.

The R2 billion Olympus Sandton development will comprise two towers, the Athena and the Apollo, located side by side.

While construction was initially planned across multiple phases, demand has been so high that the group has decided to consolidate the construction of both towers.

Growthpoint Properties’ CEO, Estienne de Klerk, told Daily Investor that the construction will be completed in early 2028.

Together, these two towers comprise 527 luxury apartments. Prices for these apartments range from R1.79 million for studios to over R45 million for super penthouses.

On 27 February 2025, Tricolt commenced the sale of more than 400 residential apartments. Buyers quickly snapped up these properties.

At the close of the public sales launch weekend, 295 of the development’s apartments had sold, with the Olympus achieving R940 million in sales.

To date, The Athena has achieved R850 million in sales with 15 units remaining. The Apollo has achieved R580 million in sales, with 60 units left for sale.

This means that collectively, Olympus Sandton has sold just over R1.4 billion – a record for the Sandton precinct.

Notably, the Athena will include a premium dining experience from Marble on the tower’s 18th floor and a Pantry convenience store in the ground-floor retail space.

The Marble Hospitality Group will also have a block of approximately 30 rooms, which forms part of the “Marble Hotel” – the group’s first non-dining hospitality venture.

Growthpoint and Tricolt will retain ownership of the two retail sections of the tower.

A luxury hotspot

As one of Sandton’s premium residential developments, the Olympus will also feature several premium amenities and services, such as –

  • Fire pits and bomas
  • A resident’s gym
  • Infinity swimming pool and bar
  • Indoor steam and sauna room
  • Direct pedestrian access to the LXX shopping centre
  • Concierge services
  • App-driven amenities
  • Secure basement parking
  • 24-hour security, CCTV and security control room
  • Backup water
  • Backup power
  • Landscaped piazza
  • Electric car bays
  • Storage facilities
  • Car wash services

The design of Olympus Sandton incorporates sustainable building practices, including post-tension slabs and smart energy management systems.

The development will target a 4-Star Green Star rating from the Green Building Council of South Africa.

Although Olympus Sandton’s 26-storey tower is not the tallest building in the area, it will become the highest point in Sandton due to its elevated location on a ridge.

Growthpoint Properties’ head of asset management South Africa, Neil Schloss, said Olympus Sandton will help people to live closer to the economic hub.

“Olympus Sandton exemplifies Growthpoint’s strategic approach to unlocking maximum value from prime real estate assets,” Schloss said.

Residents will be close to major attractions, such as the Discovery head office and padel courts, Webber Wentzel, Nelson Mandela Square, and the Sandton Gautrain station.
