A new chapter for the V&A Waterfront

The V&A Waterfront has announced the start of a new chapter for one of South Africa’s most popular attractions – the appointment of a new CEO, Graham Wood.

Wood took over the reins on 1 January 2026, succeeding David Green, who had been at the helm of the V&A Waterfront for over 17 years.

Aside from his role as CEO of the V&A, Green is also a board of trustee for the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa and the chairman and trustee of the Two Oceans Aquarium.

Previously, Green served as a non-executive director and chairman of Wesgro and held a non-executive position at the Public Investment Fund, where he advised on the entertainment and leisure project that formed part of its Saudi 2030 plan.

Green joined the V&A Waterfront as its CEO in 2009, and, under his leadership, the V&A has grown to become one of the continent’s most visited destinations and a globally respected model of mixed-use development and partnership.

“With a strong foundation in place, Graham takes the helm to build on this legacy and guide the Waterfront’s next phase of growth, innovation and connection,” the company said in a statement on 5 January 2026.

The company added that Wood brings a deep experience across the property, hospitality and tourism sectors, and a strong track record in destination leadership.

His appointment follows a comprehensive local and international search, reflecting the V&A Waterfront’s long-term vision for the precinct.

Prior to assuming the CEO role at the V&A, Wood served as the chief operations officer for hospitality at Sun International, which owns well-known local resorts and hotels like Sun City.

He has also previously held positions at local hospitality giant Tsogo Sun and Valor Hospitality Partners, based in Atlanta, Georgia, in the United States.

The V&A Waterfront is jointly owned by the Government Employees Pension Fund, represented by the Public Investment Corporation, and Growthpoint Properties, South Africa’s largest real estate investment trust.
