Bombay-born super-investor Mohnish Pabrai recently added 295.07% to his stake in Brookfield Corporation and bought shares in its spun-off company, Brookfield Asset Management.
Pabrai is the founder and CEO of Pabrai Investment Funds, a family of hedge funds with over $700 million in assets under management.
He is a known follower and self-proclaimed “copycat” of billionaire investor Warren Buffett.
Pabrai has used Buffett’s value investing strategy of buying undervalued companies and holding them for the long term to amass a personal net worth of Rs11,855,700,000 ($98,776,000).
Through Pabrai Investments, Pabrai has a $120 million investment portfolio.
He is known for owning very few stocks. His acquisition of Brookfield Asset Management shares in the fourth quarter of 2022 has increased his total number of holdings from three to four.
It is the most shares Pabrai has owned since the last quarter of 2017, when he went from five holdings to two. He has not owned more than ten shares since 2011.
Brookfield Asset Management is an alternative asset management company based in Toronto, Canada, with over $750 million in assets under management. This new acquisition makes up 4.23% of Pabrai’s portfolio.
His largest holding for the past three years has been Micron Technology Incorporate, a semiconductor manufacturing company that makes up 77.14% of Pabrai’s portfolio. He also recently added 2.03% to this holding.
However, the biggest recent change to Pabrai’s portfolio was adding 295.07% to his stake in Brookfield Corporation, of which he bought 532,016 more shares in the fourth quarter of 2022.
Brookfield Corporation distributed 25% interest in its asset management business and publicly listed Brookfield Asset Management separately in the last quarter of 2022.
