Popular South African shopping mall is getting a new mega-Woolworths and restaurants
Construction has begun on the redevelopment of Faerie Glen Shopping Centre in Pretoria East, which will be renamed The New Quarter when it opens in November 2027.
Located at the corner of Atterbury Road and Selikats Causeway, the centre has served Pretoria East residents for more than 40 years.
The owners are positioning The New Quarter as an updated neighbourhood shopping destination that builds on the centre’s established role in the area.
The project will expand the established shopping centre by approximately 8,000 m², adding new retail stores, restaurants, and outdoor dining facilities.
The redevelopment is being undertaken by Moolman Group in partnership with Retail Evolution Fund.
One of the main additions to the redeveloped centre is a new 3,000 m² Woolworths store. The retailer’s offering is expected to include Woolworths Food, Woolworths Café, Woolworths Edit, and Woolworths Cellar.
The existing Pick n Pay Hypermarket, which has been an anchor at the centre since it first opened, will also undergo a substantial refurbishment and extension.
Existing retailers, including Clicks, will continue trading alongside the new stores and additional tenants.
The expanded centre will also introduce additional fashion, health and beauty retailers, essential services, and everyday conveniences. A new restaurant precinct will provide outdoor seating and space for visitors to gather.
Leasing is still underway, with space available for additional destination retailers and service-oriented businesses.
Moolman Group director of development Steph Beyers explained that the project was particularly significant because of the centre’s long history in Pretoria East.
“This redevelopment is about investing in the future of Pretoria East while recognising the important role that this beloved centre has played in the area for many years,” he said.
The owners intend to retain the centre’s convenient neighbourhood focus while expanding its retail and dining offering.
The Moolman Group’s growing property development pipeline

The redevelopment of Faerie Glen Shopping Centre forms part of a wider pipeline of retail and commercial property projects by Moolman Group, a family-founded property investment and development company established in 1967.
The group develops and manages retail, commercial and industrial properties across South Africa. Its current projects include several new shopping centres and upgrades to existing retail destinations.
One of its new developments is Kings Walk, a 32,000 m² shopping centre under construction in Pretoria East. The centre is planned to open in 2027, with tenants including Shoprite, Boxer, Pick n Pay, Dis-Chem, and Clicks.
Other projects under construction include Green Gate Shopping Centre in Pretoria and Canal Plaza in Cape Town.
The group is also working on the 47,000 m² Riverfields Business Park South logistics development in Kempton Park, as well as upgrades and extensions at Kuruman Mall and North Cape Mall.
Moolman Group has also been reshaping its property portfolio through asset sales. In August 2026, Dipula Properties agreed to acquire nine shopping centres from the group and its co-investors in a R2 billion transaction.
The portfolio spans four provinces, and the deal is expected to strengthen Moolman Group’s balance sheet and fund further developments.
“Growth is not only about retaining assets indefinitely,” said Moolman Group CEO Pieter Lombaard. “It also requires knowing when to realise value, recycle capital and create capacity for future developments.”
The group’s future development pipeline also includes De Poort Lifestyle Centre in Paarl, which is planned to combine retail space, a tourism hub and 120 residential apartments.
In Wellington, Diemersfontein Markt is planned as a 27,000m² retail development with tenants including Woolworths, Pick n Pay and Food Lover’s Market.
