Blow to Spar
The City of Tshwane has closed down an important SuperSpar in the city as it was operating without a trading licence.
The SuperSpar is located in the Denlyn Shopping Centre, the premier shopping destination in the Mamelodi area.
Denlyn SuperSpar has a strong focus on customer service, saying its goal is to satisfy its customers by providing high-quality products and superior customer satisfaction.
“Our store is clean, professionally merchandised, offering more selection, more value for money and above all, have fun with us while doing your shopping,” it said.
However, according to the City of Tshwane, the Denlyn Superspar has been operating without a trading licence.
On Friday, 15 August 2025, the City of Tshwane’s executive mayor, Nasiphi Moya, announced the closure on social media.
“The City of Tshwane has closed down Super Spar operating at Denlyn Shopping Centre in Mamelodi,” she said.
“This store has been issued with three prior notices for operating without a trading licence. Today, we closed them down.”
She said the city’s Deputy Mayor, Eugene Modise, and the MMC for Community Safety, Hannes Coetzee, led the by-law enforcement effort.
The City of Tshwane requires a business license for those who conduct a business selling or supplying consumers with any food.
Spar South Africa has not released a statement regarding the closure of the Denlyn Superspar.
Daily Investor asked Spar for feedback about the closure of the SuperSpar in the Denlyn Shopping Centre, and will add the comment when received.
