Details about Walmart’s launch in South Africa revealed
Walmart, the world’s largest retailer, will open its first South African store on 22 November 2025 at Clearwater Mall in Roodepoort, Johannesburg.
It marks Walmart’s official entry into South Africa, underscoring its commitment to delivering low prices every day and exceptional customer experiences.
The new Walmart store at Clearwater Mall introduces a modern, spacious shopping destination designed to meet the needs of South African customers.
“Customers will enjoy a wide and carefully curated assortment of quality products ranging from groceries and household essentials to electronics and apparel,” it said.
Walmart added that these products will be offered at Walmart’s signature ‘Every Day Low Prices’.
Walmart Clearwater Mall will feature a deli with hot rotisserie chickens, while the international aisles will offer a taste of the world.
These aisles will offer confectionery and beverages from the United States, Dubai, and the United Kingdom, including Pickle-in-a-Pouch and Sour Patch Kids candy.
Shoppers will also be able to buy gourmet Col’Cacchio pizzas, explore the versatile Air Fryer Range, and enjoy authentic VSG Italian Pasta and Frozen Meals.
The shop will stock Fuggler and Labubu toys, Hot Wheels, and a Bricks Range, and tech lovers can look forward to PS5s and the latest Hisense TVs.
Walmart promised South African customers high-quality products at prices they can trust.
“The Clearwater Mall location will showcase trusted local and international brands, ensuring a diverse selection,” it said.
“Customers can expect special grand opening offers and ongoing value as part of Walmart’s Every Day Low Price philosophy.”
Massmart CEO and President Miles van Rensburg said Walmart’s ‘Every Day Low Prices’ strategy help millions of customers access quality products at affordable prices.
“With the opening of our Clearwater store, customers will be able to shop on their own schedule and trust that they will always get an Every Day Low Price,” he said.
Walmart taking the fight to Checkers and Pick n Pay

When Walmart enters a new country, it focuses on low prices, supply chain mastery, and local adaptation to gain market share.
A cornerstone of this strategy is Walmart’s Every Day Low Price philosophy, which aims to attract cost-conscious consumers.
“At Walmart, our Every Day Low Prices mean you can count on low prices today, tomorrow, next week, and the week after that,” it said.
“As we open stores later this year in South Africa, we’ll bring that same price discipline to the market.”
With Every Day Low Prices, people can shop on their own schedule and trust that they’ll always get a low price at Walmart.
“In a country where food security is a challenge for so many, we give customers an opportunity to take charge of their food choices,” it said.
It explained that Walmart associates continually look for opportunities to find cost savings and pass those along to its customers.
It will also offer Rollback offers throughout the year, which promise even lower Every Day Low Prices.
Although Walmart did not explicitly promise to offer lower prices than its competitors, like Pick ‘n Pay and Checkers, it goes without saying.
Walmart said it was working to keep prices low so that customers could save money when they did their weekly shopping with them.
Simply put, Walmart indicated that a basket of products from its stores will be lower than at its competitors.
“We take our responsibility to bring value to customers and consumers around the globe seriously,” it said.
