Coronation and Ninety One beat Allan Gray
Coronation and Ninety One achieved much better media coverage than Allan Gray, which points to better marketing and public relations.
Ninety One, Coronation, and Allan Gray are three of the largest and highest-profile asset managers in South Africa.
Ninety One’s results for the six months through September 2024 revealed that it had just under R3 trillion in assets under management.
Coronation’s assets under management as of 30 September 2024 were R667 billion, while Allan Gray had AUM of R526 billion in June 2023.
These companies trade on having high-profile and trusted brands and ensuring their clients know their money is safe and will show good growth.
Much of this is done through marketing campaigns and media coverage, and these companies have large budgets to ensure they achieve these goals.
It raises the question of which of these three companies achieves the best media coverage and creates the biggest positive sentiment.
Press Pulse’s latest media sentiment report revealed that Coronation and Ninety One outperformed Allan Gray.
Press Pulse developed an artificial intelligence (AI) sentiment-measuring system for online media reports.
The system focuses on South African business reporting from top-tier publications and measures companies’ success in achieving positive exposure.
The sentiment ranking is based on the number of positive, neutral, or negative articles and the reach and influence of the publication where they are published.
Simply put, the more positive articles a company receives, the better its sentiment ranking. The inverse also holds.
The report showed that Coronation achieved a positive sentiment score of 9.38 and Coronation 7.79 over the last thirty days.
These two companies were consistently in the news, which shows that their marketing and PR teams were actively promoting the company.
Allan Gray, in comparison, had very little media coverage and only achieved a sentiment score of 2.61.
