DStv and MTN South Africa partner to make the FIFA World Cup 2026 the most accessible one yet

DStv and MTN South Africa have partnered to make the FIFA World Cup 2026 tournament more accessible for South Africans than ever before.

This landmark partnership gives MTN South Africa customers free data for DStv Stream every time they recharge – redeemable on the MyMTN SA App.

From 11 June until 19 July, MTN South Africa customers who recharge with R50 or more in a day will receive 1GB of free data, which must be used to stream the FIFA World Cup 2026 matches on DStv Stream.

Furthermore, customers will receive a free 1GB every time Bafana Bafana scores a goal during the World Cup.

By partnering on this initiative with DStv – the broadcasting services licensee in South Africa – MTN South Africa is playing its part in creating an “it’s a goal and it’s a Gig” experience for its customers.

“This is the most significant FIFA World Cup to date for African football,” said Willington Ngwepe, CEO of MultiChoice.

“Ten teams from our continent, including Bafana Bafana, are competing on the biggest stage in the world.”

Ngwepe added that for the first time ever, DStv is making all 104 World Cup matches available live on DStv Access – DStv’s most affordable option – for only R99 per month.

“We’ve brought all 104 matches to DStv Access for the first time in 2026, because no South African fan should miss a single minute,” he said.

Muyiwa Ladipo, Chief Consumer Officer for Prepaid at MTN South Africa, said that the company believes everyone deserves the benefits of a modern connected life – particularly during important events like the World Cup.

“Through our partnership with DStv, we are helping more South Africans stream every moment of the FIFA World Cup 2026, including Bafana Bafana matches, on the world stage,” said Ladipo.

DStv Stream Access

DStv Stream Access is the most affordable streaming package offered by DStv in South Africa.

For only R99 per month, subscribers get access to a huge online library of on-demand movies, series, reality shows and lifestyle content.

They can also tune into any of the 80+ TV channels, with more being added regularly.

The most popular channels on DStv Stream Access include the WWE channel, music channel Base Pulse and, from 1 July, Novelas+ – home to the most addictive telenovelas from around the world.

Now, there will also be a dedicated FIFA World Cup 2026 pop-up channel from SuperSport for the duration of the tournament.

DStv Stream subscribers can adjust their video settings to use as little as 100MB per hour, making every megabyte of data go further.

This ensures the free 1GB from this World Cup promotion will easily cover all the matches taking place over the next 24 hours.

How to claim your data

To qualify for 1GB of free data for DStv Stream, MTN SA customers must recharge with R50 or more in a day via any recharge channel.

They will automatically receive a gift of 1GB DStv Stream data in the MyMTN SA App.

To redeem the data, simply visit the MyMTN SA App and use the redeem function.

The DStv Stream data must be redeemed by midnight on the day of the recharge and used within 24 hours.

Customers can download the MyMTN SA App on all popular app stores.
