Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has assigned his vice president to attend the Group of 20 summit in South Africa in his stead, adding to a list of heads of state skipping the conference.
Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who arrived in Johannesburg on Friday, will deliver a speech and meet leaders on behalf of the president at the gathering this weekend, according to an official statement.
Prabowo, leader of Southeast Asia’s largest economy, joins Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump in skipping the summit, which is meant for world leaders to address global geopolitical and economic issues. G-20 members represent 80% of the global economy.
