Vodacom unveils new standalone tower company name – Mast
Vodacom has rebranded its tower assets company to Mast and is busy developing its own independent presence in the market.
Vodacom first announced establishing a separate legal entity for its South African tower assets, wholly owned by Vodacom Group, in 2022.
The company was initially known as Towerco, but has recently changed its name to Mast Services (Pty) Ltd.
“The company is in the process of developing its own independent presence in the market and will formally rebrand as part of its official launch in the near future,” Vodacom said.
Vodacom appointed former Helios Towers and American Tower executive Michael Magambo as the managing director of Mast.
Vodacom explained that optimising assets through sharing is an integral part of its strategy called the “System of Advantage”.
“The separation of our South African tower portfolio into a standalone tower company business is expected to support this strategic priority,” it said.
Vodacom added that it will enhance asset returns, lower costs to communicate, and further its ambitions to connect for a better future.
The Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) database shows that Mast Services (Pty) Ltd was registered on 25 July 2022 — days after Vodacom first announced TowerCo.
Its directors, including Magambo, were added to the company on 31 August 2022.
Mast’s directors, as per the CIPC, are Andrew Barendse, Roy van Vuuren, Michael Magambo, Sitholizwe Mdlalose, and Refilwe Nkabinde. Neo Masiku is the company secretary.
