DStv has launched a new promotion to encourage subscribers to upgrade to higher packages, which aligns with its strategy of offering increased value to its clients.

This promotion is part of MultiChoice’s “Get More with DStv” initiative, which aims to offer South Africans more for their money.

In its latest financial results, MultiChoice said although its South African linear pay-TV sector is moving in the right direction, it still faces headwinds.

It highlighted that its DStv Compact base remains under significant economic pressure, which will take time to resolve.

In contrast, the DStv Premium base, excluding Compact+, is trading broadly in line with expectations.

The Access base has seen improved activity and reconnection rates, coinciding with the end of load-shedding.

MultiChoice’s strategy is to increase the average revenue per user (ARPU), and encouraging upgrades to higher packages is the easiest way to achieve this.

The exceptional Supersport offering on DStv Premium also offers increased stickiness among high-end clients.

The latest Get More with DStv promotion achieves these goals by offering Access and Compact subscribers an affordable way to upgrade their subscriptions.

Access and Compact subscribers can upgrade to a higher package by paying an extra R100 for their subscriptions.

  • DStv Compact subscribers will get access to DStv Premium content, which would typically cost them R360 more.
  • DStv Access subscribers will get access to DStv Compact content, which would typically cost them R230 more.

The higher-end package is open for 30 days. After this period, the customer will receive a message and be returned to their previous package.

Apart from the benefit of getting a discount on an upgrade, DStv subscribers may decide to stay on these packages because of their increased content offering.

Therefore, it offers MultiChoice’s cost-conscious middle and mass-market clients an affordable way to sample a higher-end service.

This, in turn, may drive increased high-end subscriptions and many DStv Compact and Access customers reconnecting to take advantage of this promotion.
