Warning of anarchy and chaos in South Africa

The Freedom Front Plus warned that the culture of violence in South Africa is derailing the country and steering it towards anarchy and chaos.

This warning comes after the murder of Reverend Danie Oosthuizen, a retired Dutch Reformed minister from Primrose East in Germiston.

The rule of law is a core ingredient of any healthy country and economy. When it erodes, it causes tremendous damage.

For example, investors require predictability. If a country’s legal and political environment becomes volatile, capital flight occurs almost instantly.

High levels of systemic corruption act as an informal tax, discouraging entrepreneurship and diverting public funds away from infrastructure or education.

Property rights also form part of the equation. When a government seizes private property without fair compensation, foreign direct investment (FDI) vanishes.

In South Africa, it goes further. The high levels of violent crime drive away highly skilled workers, including doctors, engineers, and researchers.

This brain drain has a devastating effect on the economy and has resulted in a serious skills shortage in South Africa.

Jaco Mulder, the Freedom Front Plus’s provincial leader in Gauteng, said the latest incident highlights the wave of lawlessness and violence engulfing communities.

“Such crimes not only cultivate a climate of fear, but also undermine the foundation of a stable society,” he said.

“When citizens no longer feel safe in their own homes and communities, trust in the state and its ability to ensure safety is eroded.”

He said there needs to be a deliberate restoration of the country’s moral compass while promoting a culture of respect, responsibility, and tolerance.

“Criminal behaviour must be effectively combated through improved intelligence systems and proactive crime prevention,” he said.

This would include improving the identification, screening, and qualification of workers before appointment.

He also wants the state and law enforcement agencies to intensify their fight against illegal immigration.

“Strong political will, better coordination between law enforcement agencies, and community involvement are essential to eradicating the culture of violence,” he said.
