More than half of all South Africans live within 5 kilometres of a Clicks store

Clicks’ aggressive store roll-out programme has expanded the retailer’s footprint to 1,110 stores and 840 pharmacies in the 2026 financial year.

This expansion means that 54.2% of South African households now live within 5 kilometres of a Clicks store.

This was revealed in Clicks’ results for the year through August 2026, released on Thursday, 22 October.

These results showed that Clicks achieved a milestone financial performance, with turnover surpassing R50 billion for the first time.

The retailer reported turnover growth of 5.4% to R50.41 billion, saying this was achieved despite a constrained consumer environment.

Critically for retailers, this environment was characterised by low selling price inflation and increased promotional activity.

Clicks reported internal selling price inflation of 1.2% for the second half of the 2026 financial year.

The retailer also reported that delays in implementing a new warehouse management system at its Cape Town distribution centre added some pressure in the first half of the year.

Despite this, the retailer’s top and bottom lines showed managed to grow, with Clicks’ profit for the year up 2.6% to R3.32 billion.

Its earnings per share rose 4.2% to 1,419.8 cents, while headline earnings per share grew 4.4% to 1,421.7 cents.

Operationally, Clicks expanded signficantly in the 2026 financial year, with the retailer having continued its aggressive store roll-out strategy.

In 2022, Clicks set a goal to grow its footprint to 1,200 stores – and it is well on its way,

In the 2026 financial year, Clicks opened a net 41 new stores and 60 pharmacies, bringing its network to 1,110 stores and 840 pharmacies.

The group’s results presentation stated that, as a result of this expansion, 54.2% of South African households now live within 5 kilometres of a Clicks store.

Looking ahead, Clicks said in its results that the retail trading environment is expected to remain highly competitive.

Despite this, the retailer plans to open between 40 and 50 new stores in the 2027 financial year, committed to its medium-term target of 1,200 stores.

This rollout will be supported by the R1.5 billion in capital expenditure Clicks has planned for 2027.

Of this total, R780 million is earmarked for new stores and pharmacies as well as revamps of existing stores.

Clicks will also continue to invest in its private label products, which remain the primary driver of its differentiation strategy.

“Management aims to sustain the growth momentum in private label and exclusive brands, targeting a 35% contribution to front shop sales and 18% to pharmacy sales in the medium term,” it said.

On the back of its strong 2026 results, Clicks declared a final gross ordinary dividend of 667 cents per share.
