Takealot changing its name for a month
For the first time in its 15-year history, Takealot said it is changing the name on its iconic delivery boxes.
To celebrate Heritage Month, Takealot will put its name translated into one of South Africa’s 12 official languages on its delivery boxes.
This campaign started on 1 September 2026, when Takealot’s delivery boxes began to carry the e-commerce giant’s name in South Africa’s 12 official languages.
Calling it a “bold celebration of the country’s people, cultures and shared identity”, Takealot said this initiative is an opportunity to recognise the millions of South Africans who have made the brand part of their everyday lives.
“Whether it’s Vatbaie, Tsayagolegontsi, Thath’okuningi, or one of the many other translations appearing on boxes across the country, every name represents the same promise: Happy Delivered,” the company said.
Takealot chief marketing officer Karla Levick said a logo is one of the most valuable things a company owns.
“For the first time in 15 years, we’re choosing to replace ours with something even more important – the languages of the people who built this business,” Levick said.
“This campaign is our way of celebrating the extraordinary diversity, cultures and communities that have made us who we are today.”
As part of Takealot’s Heritage Month celebrations, the group is hosting its fifth annual Heritage Design Challenge.
This challenge invites South Africans to design a limited-edition delivery box inspired by “what heritage means to them”.
The winning design is printed on one million Takealot boxes during the festive season, with the winner receiving R100,000 in Takealot vouchers and a R10,000 Takealot voucher for a charity of their choice.
These Heritage Month campaigns come shortly after the Naspers-owned Takealot Group celebrated its first full year as a profitable business.
This marked a major milestone in the company’s 15-year history, during which Takealot has grown from a local online retailer into South Africa’s most valuable online retail brand.
In June 2026, the Takealot Group, which includes Takealot.com, Mr D, TakealotMORE, and Takealot Fulfilment Solutions, reported its first full-year profit.
Its adjusted EBIT swung from a R213.53 million loss in 2025 to a R180.67 million profit in 2026. Its adjusted EBITDA surged by 86% to R1.28 billion.
The group’s gross merchandise value (GMV) grew by 14% to reach R32.85 billion, while its revenue rose 18% to R16.42 billion.
The company attributed these strong results to a favourable category mix, the adoption of TakealotMORE, and a 37% increase in retail media revenue.
Takealot.com was the primary contributor to the group’s revenue, generating R14.88 billion. The platform also achieved 15% GMV growth.
