Warren Buffett pumps money into oil

In the fourth quarter of 2023, Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway bought no new stocks but added to his stake in three companies.

This was revealed in Berkshire’s 13F filing with the SEC, which is required for all investors who manage over $100 million in funds.

While Berkshire did not add any new companies to its portfolio, it sold its stake in four companies – DR Horton, Markel Group, StoneCo and Globe Life.

The firm also reduced its stake in six companies – Apple, Paramount Global, and HP Inc.

This increased the value of Berkshire’s portfolio to $347.36 billion with 41 stocks.

Buffett is a titan in the realm of investing, with his influence having had an enduring imprint on the financial landscape.

He was elevated to icon status within the investment community through his remarkable achievements and relatable demeanour.

His investment journey started in Omaha, Nebraska, where his early fascination with business and finance took root.

Since his formative years, Buffett has immersed himself in financial literature and meticulously studied stock market trends.

With an unwavering passion for investment, he pursued higher education, ultimately attaining a Master of Science in Economics from Columbia Business School.

In 1956, Buffett embarked on his entrepreneurial path, establishing his own investment partnership and laying the groundwork for his future triumphs.

In a pivotal move in 1965, Buffett assumed control of Berkshire Hathaway, transforming it from a textile company into a global investment powerhouse.

At 93, Buffett remains at the helm of Berkshire Hathaway.

Central to Buffett’s investment philosophy is value investing, wherein he identifies undervalued companies with strong fundamentals, a strategy that has yielded remarkable returns over time.

Beyond his investment acumen, Buffett’s humility and frugality, despite his immense wealth, have garnered widespread admiration.

He resides in the same modest home he purchased decades ago and shuns ostentatious displays of affluence.

Buffett’s annual shareholder letters and engaging presence at Berkshire’s annual meetings have endeared him to investors worldwide.

Moreover, his philanthropic endeavours underscore his commitment to giving back, with a pledge to donate the majority of his fortune to charitable causes.

Through initiatives like The Giving Pledge, co-founded with Bill and Melinda Gates, Buffett’s philanthropic leadership has inspired numerous billionaires to join in the spirit of giving.
