New shopping centre next to a R84 billion estate with a Woolworths, Checkers Fresh X, Dis-Chem, Uniq, and Pick n Pay Clothing
The new Green Gate Shopping Centre in Pretoria will feature Checkers, Woolworths, and Dis-Chem Pharmacies, and is set to open in April 2027.
It is situated along Garsfontein Road in Pretoria East, providing good visibility and easy access for shoppers.
There are 737 vehicle bays, 20 motorcycle bays, and an additional 35 surplus bays to serve the clientele.
Construction on the 15,000-square-metre centre started in February 2026, and when completed, it promises to offer an attractive retail experience.
The Moolman Group is the developer of the Green Gate Shopping Centre, which said it will deliver a modern, community-focused retail destination.
The centre, which forms part of the Dorpstraat Capital Growth Fund, will feature 47 retail outlets.
“The tenant mix is curated to offer the public a diverse offering ranging from vital service stores to national fashion brands and everything in between,” Dorpstraat said.
The anchor tenants include major national retailers such as Checkers, Dis-Chem, and Pick n Pay Clothing.
Woolworths will have a particularly strong presence in the centre with Woolworths Food, Woolworths Cellar, Woolworths Edit, and Woolworths Café outlets.
Other confirmed retailers are Uniq, Pep Home, Petshop Science, Ackermans, Cape Union Mart, Crazy Store, and Sportsman’s Warehouse.
The Moolman Group said that a family-friendly central piazza will be at the centre’s heart, with an outdoor dining and leisure space for the community.
This area will feature numerous restaurants, including Panarottis, Doppi Zero, Shop 59 Café, KFC, and Kauai.
There are also many speciality stores, like Continental Linen, Lux Haven, Spec Savers, Gary Rom, PNA, Fixlab, and Senqu.
R84 billion Mooikloof Smart City

The Green Gate Shopping Centre forms part of the R84 billion Mooikloof Smart City, a public-private partnership between Balwin Properties and the government.
Mooikloof Smart City was first announced in 2020 as one of the government’s Strategic Integrated Projects (SIPs).
It is designed as affordable-to-mid-market sectional title units, serving lower- to middle-income households while providing lifestyle estate amenities.
Its target market is first-time buyers, such as young teachers, nurses, police officers, and young professionals who earn too much to qualify for RDP government housing.
Balwin Properties is developing over 14,000 residential units in the smart city, which will make it one of the largest developments in the country.
The development has a project value of over R84 billion and was one of South Africa’s 62 Strategic Integrated Projects (SIPs).
Balwin said that it meets high environmental standards and includes energy-efficient appliances, water-saving equipment, and insulation.
Apart from the shopping centre, it offers on-site sports facilities, including padel courts, soccer fields, a gym, running tracks, a training centre, and biometric security.
Balwain added that families at Mooikloof Smart City have access to a range of quality education options.
“From early childhood learning to top-performing private institutions, the area supports lifelong learning in a safe and stimulating environment,” it said.
“With several new schools planned as part of the broader development, education is a key pillar of this connected community.”
Construction is actively underway in phased rollouts, with early residential precincts, such as Greenkloof, already occupied and ongoing unit handovers.
