The most-bought share on EasyEquities
Capitec was the most-bought share on EasyEquities during the year from 1 September 2025 to 31 August 2026.
This is largely thanks to investors’ ability to purchase fractional shares through EasyEquities, as Capitec’s share price makes it largely unattainable for ordinary South Africans.
EasyEquities revealed this at its inaugural EasyAwards ceremony on 20 October, where Capitec won the Fan Favourite for locally-listed shares.
The inaugural EasyAwards comprised 10 awards, with 17 winners across three categories.
The Product Awards recognise investments chosen by EasyEquities clients, while the Provider Awards celebrate fund managers that have helped make investing more accessible.
Individual Awards recognise investors, their achievements and their contributions to the EasyEquities community.
No applications were submitted, no votes were cast, and no judging panel selected the recipients, with every result determined by investor activity and calculated by the EasyEquities Business Intelligence team.
“What makes the EasyAwards meaningful is that they’re driven entirely by our investors – their investment decisions and how they engage on the platform,” head of business intelligence at EasyEquities, Andrea Kirk, said.
“We’re using data to recognise the products investors choose, where they put their money and how they approach investing over time.”
EasyEquities itself has had a strong year, officially hitting the R100 billion milestone in client assets on its platform in May 2026.
This milestone comes just over a decade since it launched with R1 billion in assets. Now, clients deposit multiple times that amount on the platform every month.
EasyEquities launched in 2014 as a brokerage platform, a subsidiary of Purple Group backed by Sanlam.
Its big innovation at the time, apart from its simple fee structure, was the ability for investors on the platform to buy fractional shares of companies rather than an entire share.
For example, individuals could buy R50 worth of Naspers and receive a fraction of a share in the company, rather than investing close to R1,000 to buy a full share.
In August, the company sealed a major partnership with Absa that will give the bank’s 12 million retail customers access to investing through Absa’s banking app.
The partnership follows a similar model to EasyEquities’ existing offerings through the Capitec banking app and Discovery Bank.
EasyEquities’ inaugural EasyAwards is meant to celebrate this journey while providing insights into South Africans’ investing behaviour. The award winners are listed below.
