Absa launches Absa CashFlow, first-in-market solution offering on-demand cash pickup, transport and processing for businesses operating in retail cash environments

Absa Business Banking has launched Absa CashFlow, a first-in-market, on-demand digital cash management solution that enables businesses to request a secure Cash-in-Transit (CIT) pickup directly from their premises within two hours.

Designed for businesses that handle cash frequently, the service is accessed through a dedicated mobile app, allowing users to request cash collections for deposits, order change and track the movement of cash in real-time.

By removing the need to visit a branch, the service offers a safe, convenient and efficient way to manage cash while allowing day-to-day operations to continue uninterrupted.

Developed specifically with high-volume retail cash environments in mind, Absa CashFlow gives businesses greater control and visibility in managing their cash.

Once collected and securely transported, funds are processed and reflected in their business account on the same day, simplifying reconciliations and eliminating losses that can occur between collection and counting.

In addition to cash collections for deposits, the solution also enables businesses to place cash orders.

Change is prepared in the requested denominations and delivered within two hours of request.

Through the app, businesses can digitally track their cash at every stage of the process, providing full visibility and control.

Digitising and automating key cash processes helps businesses reduce handling losses, lower insurance and operational costs and improves cash-flow management.

It also unlocks time savings for store managers and supervisors while reducing the risk associated with holding significant amounts of cash on site.

This cash management offering is particularly suited to businesses operating in high frequency or high volume cash environments, including retailers, franchise groups and SMEs.

“Being the Bank of the Entrepreneur and the largest payments acquirer on the African continent, means finding ways to solve real business challenges,” said Shaheen Suliman, Interim Managing Executive for Product at Absa Business Banking.

“Absa CashFlow is an important evolution in how businesses manage physical cash. It improves safety and gives time back to our clients so they can focus on running and growing their businesses with greater peace of mind.”

The solution is delivered in partnership with SBV Services, combining Absa’s scale, digital capability and payments leadership with SBV’s expertise in secure cash logistics.

Even as digital payments continue to grow, cash remains a critical part of the South African economy.

In line with the South African Reserve Bank Cash Smart Strategy, this solution enables cash to be processed and recirculated closer to source, making it a more cost-effective option that removes pain-points for businesses.

For merchants, cash remains important as it settles immediately, works during power or network outages, aligns with customer preferences, and supports liquidity in the informal and small business economy.

The launch forms part of Absa’s broader Cash Solutions ecosystem, underscoring the bank’s commitment to innovating for both digital and cash-based realities.

Complementary offerings include:

  • Bulk ATM Services for high-capacity, always-on access to cash
  • Cash Self Service Platform (CSSP) for digital planning, ordering and tracking
  • High Value Cash branches for complex and specialist transactions

Together, they support a flexible, multi-channel approach to cash which allows businesses to choose the right one for their specific needs.

Absa remains committed to leading the evolution of payments and cash management by delivering practical innovation, personalised partnerships and future-fit solutions for entrepreneurs and businesses across the continent.
