New DStv packages and prices explained – with a dedicated sports package

DStv introduced a wide range of new packages in South Africa on 17 September 2026, offering revised channel lineups, a sports package, a new movies and series package, and updated pricing.

This was based on customer feedback, with the new packages offering simplicity, clarity, and exactly what South Africans want – more sport, more channels, and fewer repeats.

“It’s the first step in a wider effort to make DStv even better for customers,” said MultiChoice.

Here are the six core packages DStv is offering in South Africa:

  • Starter – 85+ channels, from R99 per month (new)
  • Select – 100+ channels, from R299 per month (new)
  • Sports – 115+ channels from R399 per month (new)
  • Movies and series – 115+ channels, R500 per month (new)
  • Premium – 130+ channels, from R799 per month (unchanged offering)
  • EasyView – 35+ channels for R30 per month (unchanged offering)

The Starter package is DStv’s value offering, with 85+ channels – 10 more than the previous Access package – and includes local and international drama, movies, and live football.

Select builds on this, with 100+ channels – 10 more than the Family package it replaces.

It offers access to Mzansi Magic, SuperSport PSL, Serie A and kids’ channels, as well as Wethu+, Mzansi Magic, SuperSport PSL, SuperSport Serie A, CNN, ID, and the History Channel.

It also offers 10 sports channels, including SuperSport PSL, La Liga, Serie A, Sporty TV, Blitz, ESPN, and more.

Seven-day upgrade available

Qualifying Select customers also enjoy a seven-day upgrade to the Sports package at no additional cost.

This will be available to customers who pay month to month, in full, and on time.

Customers will receive this access at the start of their new subscription period, and will return to their usual package once the seven-day period ends.

Should this test be successful, DStv will roll out this seven-day upgrade to its other packages in the coming months.

“We’ll continue to find ways to give customers more value from their DStv subscriptions and the customers on the Select package will be the first to enjoy this benefit, with more to come before the end of the year,” said Multichoice CEO Willington Ngwepe.

The Sports package

The Sports package is perhaps one of the most highly anticipated offerings, with many South Africans longing for the dedicated option.

This package offers the Select package as a base – with channels like M-Net Stars, Universal Studio, BBC Brit, Mzansi Magic, Moja Love, Universal TV, TLC, Zee Zonke, Star Khanya, WWE, National Geographic and all kids’ channels.

It builds on this with 17 dedicated sports channels, including every match of the Premier League, Champions League, and the South African Premiership (PSL).

It also offers local rugby, including the Currie Cup and SA Cup, with a taste of international club rugby (URC Match of the week), combat sports (UFC/EFC), and cycling, including the Tour de France and Cape Epic.

You’ll also get SuperSport Cricket, previously only available to Premium subscribers. It includes all the cricket from the SA20, IPL, the Proteas and Tests.

Movies and Series

Just like the Sports package, the Movies and Series package starts with the Select package’s 100+ channels as a base, and adds the very best local and international entertainment.

This includes the following: M-Net, kykNET, Mzansi Magic, BBC Earth, Discovery Channel, and M-Net Movies+.

All of this is available at a much lower price than before, coming in at just R500 per month.

What you need to know
